책소개유방영상학은 영상진단기기의 발전과 더불어 의학의 어느 분야보다도 눈부신 발전을 이루고 있다. 이는 의학적?기술적 발전 때문이기도 하지만, 그만큼 유방 관련 질환이 늘어가고 있다는 의미이기도 하다. 우리나라에서 유방암은 발생빈도가 매년 증가하여 현재 여성암 중 1위를 달리고 있으며, 특히 젊은 여성의 유방암 발생률이 높다. 그렇다 보니 유방암 조기발견의 중요성이 더욱더 높아지고 있고, 유방영상 전문의들의 책임 또한 나날이 커지고 있다.
의학계의 노력과 국가에서 규제하는 화질관리의 영향으로 유방영상의 질과 진단 및 치료 분야의 지식과 기술은 꾸준히 향상되고 있다. 이 같은 지식과 제도를 바탕으로 의료진은 임상에서 좀더 정확하고 빨리 병변을 발견하고 치료할 수 있어야 한다. 임상에서는 비슷한 영상소견을 보이는 병변들이 상당히 많기 때문에, 의료진은 어떤 병변에 적절한 촬영술과 감별진단, 이후 진단검사법의 선택 등과 관련해 정확한 가이드라인이나 대책을 습득하고 있어야 한다.
