한글 번역판을 내면서

최근 의학의 발전은 아찔하게 느껴질 정도로 급속하게 발전하고 있다. 외과학의 발전도 내시경이나 로봇, 레이저같은 기구의 개발로 수술적 치료에 있어서 많은 술기의 변화를 필연적으로 동반하고 있다. 특히 삶의 질을 중시하는 현대의학의 경향에 따라 종래의 광범위 절제술보다 보존적 절제술이 선택되고 있어 외과의는 이러한 변화를 빨리 숙지하고 정확히 습득하여야만 유능한 외과의가 될 수 있다. 그동안 수술술기에 관하여 많은 교과서들이 출간되었지만 카신의 외과 수술의 원칙과 실제(영문제목:operative strategy in surgery)처럼 내용이 충실하고 시류에 맞는 책은 별로 눈에 뜨이지 않았다. 독자들에게 영어 원서보다 한글로 번역한 책이 이해가 쉬우리라 생각하여 성균관의대 삼성서울병원 외과학교실 교수들이 모두 합심하여 번역본을 출간하기에 이르렀다. 그리고 각자 전공분야를 맡아 번역하여 오류가 없도록 노력하였다. 그동안 이 번역본이 출간되도록 바쁜 시간을 쪼개어 충실하게 번역해준 삼성서울병원 외과 교수, 그리고 직간접으로 도와준 전임의, 의국원, 비서 여러분들에게 감사와 함께 치하를 드린다. 또한 삼성서울병원 개원시부터 환자를 위해 헌신적으로 불철주야 노력하시고 교육, 연구부문에 있어서도 정열을 불태워 외과학교실의 오늘이 있게 해주신, 지금은 유명을 달리하신 김용일교수님의 영전에 이책을 바치고자 한다. 그리고 예쁘게 출판해준 가본의학 관계자들의 수고에 고마움을 전달하고 싶다. 앞으로 더욱 좋은 번역본이 되도록 독자 여러분들의 많은 관심과 지도 편달을 바라며 이 책이 우리나라 외과학의 발전에 밀알이 되었으면 하는 마음으로 삼가 독자여러분께 이 책을 내놓는 바이다.
